Disability Income Protection
Questions & Answers
Why should I consider this Insurance?
There is a one in five chance that you will
suffer a serious illness or injury before
you reach age 65. If it happens to you, a Disability
Insurance Plan will enable you to maintain
your standard of living whilst you are
unable to work, allowing you to concentrate on getting
better.
Who Can Apply for Cover?
Whether you are an expatriate, working
outside your home country, or a local
resident In Indonesia,
provided your occupation is non-hazardous,
we have a plan to suit your needs.
Cover can normally be continued until you reach
age 65
and the plans provide you with a regular
income when an illness or injury prevents
you from
working.
How Does a Disability Insurance Plan
Work?
Cover is provided as a cash payment
if you suffer an illness or injury,
which
prevents
you from working at your usual occupation
for a continuous period of months.
There is a choice
of ‘deferred period’. This is
the length of time you are unable to work
before
benefits are paid to you. Income replacement
will normally start after three or six months,
and will continue until you are medically
fit to return to work, or until age 65, or
your
normal retirement date if earlier.
How Much Benefit is provided?
The amount of benefit you can claim
is the lower of:
a) The income benefit you have insured,
or
b) 75% of your salary at the time you
become disabled, (or, if you are self-employed,
75% of your average annual earnings
over the previous
three years), LESS any state or other
insurance
benefit you are receiving.
What are the Benefit Payment Conditions?
During the first 24 months of benefit
payment you can claim if you are
completely unable
to follow your usual occupation.
However, once you have been receiving benefits
for a continuous
period of 24 months, benefits will
only continue to be paid if you
are completely
unable to
follow any occupation for which
you are reasonably suited by training,
education
or experience.
Benefit payments cease when you
reach age 65, (or upon retirement
if earlier),
and
payments
automatically cease upon death.
If, after becoming eligible for
benefits you return to work and
within six
months suffer
a relapse, your benefits payments
will re-start immediately.
Following the start of the claim
period, your benefit payments will
escalate
by 2% compound
each year.
